Paw measures exactly on a size's top number? Order the next size up. Example: exactly 3" = size 6.
Our sizes currently run 3 to 7. If your dog's paw is under 2 1/4" or 3 1/2" and over, contact us before ordering.
How to measure your dog's paw
All 5 boots in a package are the same size. Measure both front and back paws, and choose the size that fits the largest paw.
- Place the paw. Stand your dog on a sheet of paper with weight on the paw.
- Trace the paw. Trace around the paw with a pencil.
- Measure the width. Measure the widest part of the outline in inches. That is the paw width.
How to Put On Your Yokum Gear Dog Boots
- Check the paws. Make sure the paws are clean and free of stickers, burrs, rocks, and debris. Anything trapped inside the boot could cause rubbing or discomfort.
- Check and trim the toenails. Trimmed nails matter for a good fit. In our testing, the boots wouldn't slide fully onto some test dogs' paws until their nails were trimmed. Long nails can keep the boot from fitting all the way.
- Open both straps. Loosen both straps before putting the boot on.
- Pull the boot on like a sock. Gently work the boot over the paw until the paw is fully inside and the toes are comfortable. Do not force it.
- Secure both straps. Fasten both straps so they're snug but not pinching or restricting circulation. The lower strap is especially important for keeping the boot in place. It should sit around the ankle area, not across the foot.
- Check the fit. Walk your dog indoors and watch for slipping, twisting, rubbing, or signs of discomfort. Adjust as needed. Recheck the fit outdoors, especially on the first few outings.
Never leave boots on an unattended dog that might chew or remove them.
Tip: Reflective threads woven into the adjustable straps help improve visibility when illuminated by headlights, flashlights, or other light sources. Fasten the straps flat and untwisted so the reflective side faces out.
Care & washing
MACHINE OR HAND WASHABLE!
HOW TO WASH YOUR YOKUM GEAR DOG BOOTS
- Remove excess mud, dirt, and debris.
- Fasten both Velcro straps.
- Place the boots inside the included mesh drawstring bag and secure it.
- Machine wash in warm water on a gentle cycle, or hand wash.
- Hang the boots in the mesh bag, or remove them and lay them flat, and allow them to air dry completely, inside and out.
- NEVER PUT BOOTS IN THE DRYER!
We have personally tested washing the muddy boots inside the mesh bag, and they came out looking brand new!
The mesh bag does three jobs: convenient boot storage, keeps the boots together during washing, and gives you an easy way to hang them to air dry.
Before each use, check the boots, straps, and stitching for wear.
FAQ
Are all 5 boots the same size?
Yes. Choose the size that fits your dog's largest paw.
My dog's front and back paws measure differently.
Go with the largest paw. All five boots in the package are that size.
My dog measures exactly on a size's top number.
Order the next size up. Example: exactly 3" = size 6, exactly 2 1/2" = size 4. Our sizes currently run 3 to 7. If your dog's paw is under 2 1/4" or 3 1/2" and over, contact us before ordering.
The boot won't go all the way on.
Check the toenails first. Trimmed nails often fix it. Don't force the boot.
The boot twists or slips.
Recheck the lower strap. It should sit snug around the ankle area, not across the foot. Then walk your dog indoors again to check the fit.
How long can my dog wear them?
Check the fit often, especially on the first few outings, and take the boots off if you see rubbing or discomfort. Never leave boots on an unattended dog.
Can I try them on before going outside?
Yes, please do. Try them on indoors on clean paws and a clean floor. Boots used outdoors aren't eligible for ordinary returns or size exchanges. (Defective or incorrect items are different. Email yokumgear@gmail.com and we'll handle it separately.)
Are they waterproof or made for ice?
We don't make waterproof or ice-traction claims. They're for rainy, muddy, and snowy days, and for keeping mud off your floors.
What about hot pavement?
They add a barrier between paws and hot pavement, but they don't make dangerously hot surfaces safe. Avoid excessively hot pavement.
Are they reflective?
Reflective threads are woven into the adjustable straps. They help improve visibility when illuminated by headlights, flashlights, or other light sources. They don't glow in the dark and can't guarantee nighttime safety, so keep using lights and reflective gear after dark.
How do I wash them?
1) Remove excess mud, dirt, and debris. 2) Fasten both Velcro straps. 3) Place the boots inside the included mesh drawstring bag and secure it. 4) Machine wash in warm water on a gentle cycle, or hand wash. 5) Hang the boots in the mesh bag, or remove them and lay them flat, and allow them to air dry completely, inside and out. 6) NEVER PUT BOOTS IN THE DRYER!
